A 25-year-old woman from Motera, Ahmedabad, has reported losing ₹16.7 lakh in a visa fraud case involving a local consultancy firm. The complaint, filed at the Infocity police station in Gandhinagar, accuses Janak Patel of Narayan Consultancy of promising a Canadian work permit in exchange for ₹30 lakh.
Details of the Alleged Fraud
The victim, employed at a beauty parlour in Sargasan, was introduced to the consultancy through a friend. Initially quoted ₹32 lakh for the work permit, she negotiated the amount down to ₹30 lakh, agreeing to pay in two instalments: ₹18 lakh upfront and ₹12 lakh subsequently.
Despite submitting all required documents and completing formalities, the promised Canadian work permit was never delivered. When she sought updates, Patel became unresponsive. After persistent follow-ups, she received a partial refund of ₹13.25 lakh, leaving ₹16.75 lakh unpaid.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
The Infocity police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Janak Patel, citing charges of cheating and breach of trust. Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged fraud and to recover the remaining funds.
